Engagement Manager - Social Impact

Cicero Social Impact Consulting maximizes the mission-driven efforts of funders, nonprofits, and corporations throughout the country and around the world. From building leadership courses with former Presidents of the United States, to assisting NGOs in fighting poverty in the developing world, to connecting education and employment for low-income individuals, we assist our clients in solving society’s most complex challenges. We do this through three services—strategy and program design, monitoring and evaluation (M&E), and implementation support. Example engagements include:

  • Designing, implementing, and evaluating a multi-state, multi-partner initiative to improve post-secondary education access for rural high school students
  • Designing comprehensive M&E systems for global funders and NGOs, including developing detailed theories of change, a robust repository of measurement indicators, and integrated technology systems to gather, analyze, visualize, and report impact data
  • Conducting numerous impact evaluations involving quasi-experimental methodologies and both primary data collection and secondary data analysis
  • Developing and helping to implement a segmented service delivery model for a national nonprofit that supports the implementation of career academies in hundreds of schools and districts nationwide

We frequently collaborate with teams in Cicero’s other business units—Corporate Management Consulting, which supports higher ed institutions and for-profit businesses, and EdDirection, which supports K-12 education (e.g. schools, districts, and state education agencies). Illustrative engagements include of such collaboration:

  • Helping dozens of school districts in Texas rapidly transition to effective virtual instruction during Covid-19
  • Redesigning the data systems, infrastructure, and processes to enable stronger beneficiary segmentation, program design and delivery, and impact evaluation for one of the nation’s largest veteran services organizations

We are looking for driven, strategic thinkers capable of addressing complex social issues and excited about contributing to our continued growth and leadership in the social sector. Engagement Managers are project leaders. In this role, you’ll be deeply involved in all aspects of the consulting process, working directly with Partners and Principals to craft innovative strategies that shape our clients’ futures. You’ll lead teams of Associates and Business Analysts in executing project responsibilities and will develop client relationships as a trusted thought-partner and facilitator. Internally, you will manage diverse internal initiatives and play an active role in mentoring and inspiring our ambitious consultants.

While there isn’t any one educational or professional background that best prepares you for a fulfilling career at Cicero Social Impact, we typically look for the following qualifications:

  • Advanced graduate degree (MBA, PhD, MPA, etc.) and exceptional academic record
  • Experience in management/strategy consulting, nonprofits, think tanks, charities, education, social/corporate impact, government social programs, and/or similar environments
  • Experience driving measurable impact in the social and/or educational sectors, including by launching and leading complex initiatives
  • Relationship-management experience, particularly with ongoing initiatives involving multiple stakeholders and partners (e.g. funders, intermediaries, and service providers)
  • Strong analytical and insight generation abilities
  • Proven ability to coach and direct highly intelligent teams
  • Exceptional ability to effectively communicate complex ideas, both verbally and in writing
  • Exceptional organization skills, ambition, and ability to multi-task
  • A strong desire to make a difference in the world

Preference is for candidates who are able to work out of our offices in Salt Lake City, Utah, Dallas, Texas, or Washington DC, though working remotely is a possibility for exceptional candidates.
